Fort Rucker, the Fisherman's Paradise

Whether you’re an expert angler or a casual fisherman, you will enjoy casting your line out on one of Fort Rucker’s beautiful lakes. Try your luck with Large Mouth Bass, Hybrid Bass, Catfish, Crappie, or Bream. Creel limits posted at the lakes.

Each of our lakes offers a unique fishing experience to those looking to spend a day on the water. Need a boat? Ask about our boating equipment available for checkout* from our Outdoor Recreation Service Center.

Lake Tholocco

This 640-acre lake is located on Johnston Road and is home to our Outdoor Recreation Service Center, West Beach swimming area, RV Park and Lake Tholocco Lodging cabins. While this location is known for its amazing views and recreation on the shore, its waters offer a fisherman’s paradise. Lake Tholocco fishing is open to all ages. 

Parcours Lake  

At 4.1 acres, this lake is reserved for our youth fishers, ages 15 and below. Ages 16 and above may assist youth in fishing, but may not actively fish at this lake. Ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Parcours Lake is located on Farrel Road, behind Lyster Army Health Clinic. 

Beaver Lake

Surrounded by walking trails, this 7.7-acre lake is open to all ages, from sunup to sundown. Access to Beaver Lake can be found off of 3rd Avenue, by the Fort Rucker Physical Fitness Center’s football field. 

Beaver Pond 

This small fishing pond is open to all ages, from sunup to sundown. Beaver Pond is located off of Andrews Avenue, between Silver Wings Golf Course and Ozark Gate. 

Ech Lake 

This 7.7 acre lake is open to all ages, from sunup to sundown. To get to Ech Lake, turn from Christian Road onto Johnston Road, then take the first unpaved road on the left and follow the signs to Ech Lake.  

Buckhorn Lake

This 13.2-acre lake is open to all ages. Buckhorn Lake is open from sunup to sundown, however days of operation are subject to change. We ask that patrons visit www.ftruckermwr.com or contact us at Fort Rucker Outdoor Recreation to view the weekly schedule, Wednesday after 1 p.m. The Lake is located 2 miles past Silver Wings Golf Course on Hatch Road. 

Post Fishing Permits

For fishers ages 16 and older, a State Fishing License and Post Fishing Permit are needed prior to fishing on Fort Rucker. Please visit the Outdoor Recreation Service Center to obtain your license and permit.

U.S. Army Soldier Show Returns!

The U.S. Army Soldier Show, proudly presented by Family and MWR, returns to the Fort Rucker area with two 90-minute live musical performances at Enterprise High School Performing Arts Center on August 2 at 7 p.m. and August 3 at 2:30 p.m.

The community is invited to come out to watch and support the talented cast of Soldiers as the show explores music genres and cultures from around the world. The theme of the show is  “Ready and Resilient” and has a message that speaks to everyone.

You won’t want to miss this memorable night of music, dance and celebration! Admission is FREE and open to the public. No tickets required!

• The first Army Soldier Show was perfromed on Broadway in 1917, “Yip Yip Yank” conceived and directed by SGT Irving Berlin.

• The 2013 U.S. Army Soldier Show, the 30th consecutive annual show of the modern era, is made up of 34 soldiers: 15 performers, 12 technicians, and 6 drivers.

• In the span of 5 months, the 2013 U.S. Army Soldier Show will perform at 34 CONUS Garrisons with 55 performances for our Army Families and their communities. The Tour will culminate with 2 final performances at their home, located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas in the month of September.

Plan a Weekend Getaway with Leisure Travel Services

I stopped by Family & MWR’s Leisure Travel Services office to get some information on weekend trips...and here’s what I learned. You can easily get away from Alabama by taking a short trip to Florida or Georgia, both within driving distance for a mini vacation.

If some quality time at the beach is what you crave, head down to Panama City Beach, where there is more to do than just lay in the sand. After some fun in the sun, head to Gulf World Marine Park, which is fun for the whole family. It offers dolphin, tropical bird, sea lion, and reptile shows, along with shark and turtle feedings, and much more. 

Tired of the beach? Atlanta, Georgia has a lot to offer. The Leisure Travel Center offers an Atlanta City Pass for $69 that allows you to save 45% on trips to the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, and Inside CNN Studio Tour. The pass also includes admission to: either the High Museum of Art, or the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, and either the Zoo Atlanta, or the Atlanta History Center.

Wiregrass Freedom Fest 2013!

Join us this July as we celebrate Wiregrass Freedom Fest 2013.  

 

The Wiregrass Freedom Fest is now proudly a partnership between Fort Rucker and its neighbors: Daleville, Dothan, Enterprise and Ozark. Thru the additional support of sponsors and our community, Wiregrass Freedom Fest 2013 welcomes the entire Wiregrass community to come and enjoy the festivities.

Join us in the celebration of our nation's independence at Fort Rucker’s Festival Fields on July 3rd from 4 pm to 10 pm for a day of food, activities, exhibits and fun, culminating in one of the area's largest fireworks shows. 

McKayla Reece, DAV Ambassador/Sweetheart for GA, NC, AL, SC

Enjoy displays, a kids’ zone with inflatables, food and merchandise vendors, fly-over by Red Thunder Air Show Team and so much more. The 98th Army Silver Wings band will be the evening’s musical entertainment with special guest performance by McKayla Reece - Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Ambassador/ Sweetheart for Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama and South Carolina.

Youth Sports 7 on 7 Intramural Tackle Football

Child, Youth & School Services' (CYSS) Youth Sports & Fitness Department is transitioning its Youth Football to 7 on 7 Intramural Tackle Football this season. This exciting new program means that there will be more playing time for the youth, more equitable (weight) competition for the youth, & playing only other CYSS teams on post (less travel for all involved).

We will have smaller team sizes as well as a modified field. Youth between the ages of 8-13 can sign up starting July 1. Our Junior Varsity teams will consist of 8-10 year olds & our Varsity teams will consist of 11-13 year olds. 

Youth must be enrolled in Child, Youth, and School Services (CYSS) & have a valid sports physical.

Birthday Cake Celebration at The Landing Zone 

Be sure to stop in at The Landing Zone during lunch for a slice of FREE cake, in celebration of the Army’s 238th birthday on Friday, June 14th. The cake cutting begins at 11:45 am. Cake will be available while supplies last.

Dueling Pianos at The Landing

Celebrate the Army’s Birthday with this musical, Dueling Pianos event! Dueling Pianos is June 14th, from 8 pm - midnight.

Come and enjoy this high energy, all request, comedy piano show. Witness two pianists “duel” it out in an effort to see who can play better and faster. Tell the pianists what you want to hear as you sing along to your favorite tunes. Audience participation is highly encouraged, so come out and join the fun! Open to the Public, ages 18+.

Get in touch with your inner "beach bum" and join us for our annual welcome-to-summer celebration at Lake Fest! 

The fun starts on Saturday, May 18th from noon to 6 p.m. as we turn West Beach, Lake Tholocco into a tropical paradise. Lake Fest features a variety of fun activities for all ages including swimming, kids inflatable’s, games, vendors, and more. Sign-up to participate in our Sandcastle Contest or Volleyball Tournament at the event. We will offer FREE use of life jackets, canoes and paddle boats to keep the party going all afternoon!
